X. Dumusque et al. reported in an article in the journal Nature the discovery of the first planet known double star system Alpha Centauri, which is currently the system closest to our solar system. This alone, after years of research, would be taken over. But also, I must say that this planet Alpha Centauri Bb is a planet of similar size to Earth.
In any case, Alpha Centauri is our nearest star the time the Solar System. Hence in 25,000 years will be at a distance of less than 3 light years. At present, the distance is 4.37 light years. Suffice to say that Alpha Centauri is actually a triple star system. The minor component, Proxima Centauri, a red dwarf, is only 4.24 light years from the Sun, and has the record of actual nearest star. Supposedly Proxima Centauri orbits of the two stars, which are yellow dwarf Alpha Centauri (spectral type similar to our Sun) and Alpha Centauri B (less bright).
Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B form a double star system. In fact, to the naked eye, Alpha Centauri is perceived as a single star. Because the masses are comparable, the two stars orbit around a center of mass is closer tt than Alpha Centauri Alpha Centauri B. The minimum distance between the two stars is comparable to the average distance tt separates our solar system, Saturn Sun.
Much has been written in the past decades on the double star systems and their possible planets. There xalat science fiction, and even more Xalar. But we assumed that the dynamics of a difficult double star system planet formation.
Dumusque et al. have used data collected by the HARPS spectrograph for three years, one of the instruments of the La Silla observatory in Chile. Have not obtained any evidence of planets around Alpha Centauri A. As for Alpha Centauri B data indicate the presence of a mass of a planet similar to Earth, but orbit very closed. It is indeed a planet that is part of the so-called "hot earth" (Hot Earth), Earth-sized planets found within the "torrid zone" of its star system.
The technique used has its limits. One can not rule out the presence of other planets, even more massive, more distant orbits of both stars. The HARPS spectrograph, indeed, to measure very accurately the "radial velocity" of a star through the Doppler effect. The "radial velocity" is the component of motion away or tells us if our approaches with respect to the solar system. In the case of Alpha Centauri tt radial velocity is approaching. But in the case of Alpha Centauri B we detected a weak oscillations, which follows the existence and basic characteristics of the planet Alpha Centauri tt Bb. How weak are these oscillations? We speak of a speed equal to 0.5 m s -1. If Alpha Centauri Bb is a distance tt of Alpha Centauri tt B comparable tt to separating the Earth from the Sun, these oscillations would be less than 0.1 m s -1 below the current detection instruments .
The impact of the discovery in interstellar travel blog Centauri Dreams of the Tau Zero Foundation, tt is wide echo discovery. The Tau Zero Foundation is dedicated to the question of interstellar missions. Get at least a good security system that Alpha Centauri is a planet, surely tt stimulate these discussions.
